Chicken BBQ - Saturday Aug. 25, 2012

Our first fundraiser for the year began bright and early (4 am)at the Pine Grove COB BBQ pit. There our group of students and parents began racking the 600 halves of chicken as others started the coals. While the chicken began cooking we made our sauce, made posters, got aluminum read to wrap the chicken in, lined tubs and had some time to chat, have breakfast and just enjoy each others company. We began suacing the chicken around 6am and an hour later it was time to take the first racks of chicken off of the pit. Boy did it smell good. As we waited for the chicken to "cure" some in the tubs, the wrapping stations were set up. Our three sales groups headed out to Food Lion in Timberville, The Broadway Farmers Market and Mt. Clinton Pike Exxon before 8 am. Rain had been in the forecast, but held off and we were abel to sell all of our chicken by 11:30am. Yet another successfull BBQ. If you had a half you know how delicious it was. If not, make sure you get to taste one next time.

Our 2013 World Strides Group

As of September 19, 2012 we currently have 40 students, 5 parent chaperons, Mrs. Nicholas and Mrs. Rhodes and our Principal Mr. Baker signed up to go to Florida for the 2013 JFHMS World Strides Trip. The trip, still 5 days long, has a new itenerary, giving us more opportunities to explore the living world. Our trip will begin at Disney's Animal Kingdom and fireworks at EPCOT. Day two stays the same, as we visit Disney's Magic Kingdom for a lesson on the properties of motion and then spend a fun afternoon at Hollywood Studios. A bus will take us to Tampa that evening for our early morning swim with the Manatees and an afternoon of snorkeling down the Rainbow River. Next we will head towards Key Largo. Our last two days will be spent snorkeling at a coral reef, swimming with dolphins, kayaking in the Mangroves and taking a tram ride through the Everglades. This is going to be a great trip! But before we can go there is a lot of work and fundraising that needs to be done. So let's get started!
